- Use the RMAN BACKUP command to create backup sets and image copies:images copies are exact copies of datafile, backup sets are proprietary file format backups. When datafiles system is backup up also controlfile and spfile are backed up. If you backup system datafile (number 1) as backup set If CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP is ON, then RMAN writes the current control file and SPFILE to a separate autobackup piece. Otherwise, these files are automatically included in the backup set that contains datafile 1 (however they are two separate backup sets).
